Vida Doce, Its a Sweet Life.

Vida Doce, a pastry shoppe that will be opening in Newington, Connecticut, is the dream of local pastry chef Matthew Seguro.  Having made his first wedding cake in his senior year at Newington High School, at the age of 23, Matthew already has five years of experience behind him.  He has spent countless hours perfecting his technique, both in his home kitchen and in the four years that he studied at Johnson and Wales University in Providence.  He graduated with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Baking and Pastry Arts in 2008.  Wasting little time, he began searching for the perfect location to open his shoppe.  He found the perfect spot right in his hometown of Newington.  Matthew struck gold when he discovered a plaza that was being built on Brockett Street, right off of the Berlin Turnpike.  This will be home to the Vida Doce Cafe and Pastry Shoppe expected to open in July, 2009.

Matthew hopes to bring the decadent pastries and relaxed atmosphere of a European cafe to the Berlin Turnpike.  His great love for his Portuguese culture will be evident in the various Portuguese pastries that will be offered at Vida Doce.  Various flavors of gelato will offer a taste of Italy, along with a great way to cool down in the hot summer months.  A variety of gourmet deli sandwiches will offered from the traditional bifana (pork sandwich) to a gourmet panini.  Although wedding cakes and other specialty cakes will be his main focus, Matthew hopes to introduce different European pastries and deli sandwiches to the menu regularly.
